This article presents the findings of the evaluation survey conducted following the fourth cycle of lectures of the Jean Monnet Module “EPPO and EU Law: A Step Forward in Integration” at the University of Milan-Bicocca in May 2025. The survey aimed to assess students’ satisfaction, perceived learning outcomes, and engagement with the Center of Excellence’s activities. Results show high levels of satisfaction across all evaluated dimensions, with participants emphasizing the quality of teaching, the relevance of the content, and the value of professional engagement opportunities.
The fourth cycle of lectures, held in the academic year 2024-2025, continued the tradition of combining theoretical analysis with practical insights provided by legal professionals and academics. To measure the effectiveness and impact of the course, a structured evaluation survey was conducted among participants immediately following the conclusion of the lectures. This article presents and analyses the survey results, providing insights into the module’s strengths and areas for future improvement.
The survey was distributed online and completed by students enrolled at the University of Milan-Bicocca.
Responses were collected between 27 and 28 May 2025. The survey included both quantitative questions (using numerical scales from 1–5 and 1–10) and qualitative, open-ended questions addressing participants’ opinions, satisfaction, and recommendations.
Participants’ overall satisfaction ratings ranged from 7 to 10, with an average score of 8.8/10, demonstrating a very positive evaluation of the module, furthermore they evaluated the relevance and depth of the syllabus as high, indicating that the course content aligned well with contemporary issues in EU law and the EPPO.
Qualitative comments reinforced these results:
- “The engagement that professors and chairs are able to create.”
- “The opportunity to enhance both my practical and theoretical legal skills—particularly in the area of EPPO—along with the chance to collaborate with high-level professionals.”
- “The possibility to meet a lot of professional people.”
Moreover, all students agreed that they had acquired new skills useful for their careers, that relate to:
1. Understanding the structure and function of the EPPO;
- Developing analytical and legal reasoning capacities in EU contexts;
- Engaging with professionals and experts in legal and institutional practice.
The course’s emphasis on active participation was reflected in an average 4.6/5 score for the encouragement of discussion, confirming that the module promotes interactive learning, in fact in the question on feedback for improvement the response was minimal, reflecting a high level of satisfaction.
The results of the 2025 evaluation highlight the module’s academic and pedagogical success. Students valued the high level of engagement by lecturers, the relevance of the topics covered, and the strong link between theory and practice.
A notable feature is the active participation of students in the Center of Excellence committees, which extends the educational experience beyond the classroom into collaborative academic and professional environments.
Some variation in responses to the “depth appropriate to skills” question suggests that future editions of the course could continue to refine the balance between accessibility for students with less background in EU law and depth for more advanced participants.
The evaluation of the fourth cycle of the Jean Monnet Module “EPPO and EU Law: A Step Forward in Integration” demonstrates a high degree of satisfaction and academic value. Students praised the teaching quality, the professional enrichment provided, and the interactive nature of the course.
These findings confirm the module’s effectiveness in fostering both legal knowledge and European civic engagement, while also strengthening the University of Milan-Bicocca’s role as a Center of Excellence in EU legal education.
